Negreiros

Quinta das Amendoeiras has been in the Trigo de Negreiros family since the 1940s, when it was bought by Joaquim, grandfather of the four brothers who are now the owners. This acquisition marked the resumption of the family's connection to the banks of the Douro, from where they had left at the end of the 19th century, pushed by the devastation of the vineyards caused by phylloxera. The winery then returned to producing Port wine, but shortly afterwards Quinta das Amendoeiras began selling only its grapes. In 2004, the Negreiros family decided to bring the smell of must back to Amendoeiras: they resurrected the winery and created a DOC Douro with the family name. Modern stainless steel vats with mass pumps and temperature control were installed in the renovated winery. The architectural project, by Paulo Viana, preserved, however, the old schist and granite walls and the two original lagares, where the grapes are still treaded today. This close and harmonious connection that can be established between tradition and technology is at the base of our wines, and is also present in the way that, since 2019, we have opened the doors of our house to welcome you, with the involvement of one of the great-granddaughters, Catarina.
