Quinta das Herédias
With a history of 900 years, Quinta das Herédias was one of the properties founded by the Cistercian Monastery of São Pedro das Águias, in the spirit that presided over the Order of St. Bernard: to populate and cultivate areas that were donated to the monastery by the ancestors of the Távoras. Later, these same properties were leased by the monastery to families of the region, some of them nobles. It was the last descendant of the Herédia family, D. Leonor Amália Falcão Sarmento, who was the first owner of the estate, after the extinction of the religious orders in 1834. Since 2021, Quinta das Herédias has been owned by Carlos Lucas.
Located in the demarcated Douro region, in the municipality of Tabuaço, this farm has 108 hectares, of which 30 hectares are vineyards and 35 hectares are olive groves. The vineyards, aged between 30 and 130 years old, are located between 200 and 600 meters above sea level and produce an average of 220,000 bottles per year.
